Zuku baskets are all handmade, unique individual pieces of art. The masterful weavers in Ghana create these intricate, one-of-a-kind, durable, and functional pieces by hand from simple river grass. Each basket is truly a culmination of expertise and artisanship.
The baskets are not made in a factory and may not be "perfect" in every way, but that is what we love and value about them. The little imperfections bring unique character and remind us that there is a weaver, a human being, and an artist behind every basket. There may be some uneven patterns or fibers that are not trimmed perfectly. The goat leather wrapped around the handles is harvested with every part of the animal used – because of this, the handles may have some uneven colors or textures, but we think it is fantastic that they are not letting anything go to waste. None of these imperfections with the grass or leather affect the functionality of the basket.
